Appraisal Information Changing for Out-of-County Properties

During the recently completed 80th session of the Texas Legislature, a bill was passed that eliminates the appraisal of property by an appraisal district if that property is located in another county. HB 1010 provides that an appraisal district's boundaries are the same as the county's boundaries. This law takes affect with the 2008 appraisal year.

The effect of this law is that approximately 54,000 accounts that used to be appraised by DCAD will now be appraised by our neighboring counties. DCAD's web site, which we use to present information on accounts that we appraise, will consequently cease carrying information on the "out-of-county" accounts, and the accounts will disappear from our web site maps. These changes will take place over a period of several weeks as the GIS database is updated by sections.

Property owners seeking current information on the out-of-county properties should begin using the web site or customer service offices of the appraisal district in which the property is located. DCAD's web home page has a tab that contains Links to other appraisal district's web sites.

For a short time, property owners are still able to find appraisal information on out-of-county accounts by using the Search Appraisal tools for Owner Name, Address, or Account Number. It will not be possible to search using the Find Property on Map tool. Trying to go to the map from an account's appraisal information will return a message, "Parcel Information Not Found In The GIS Database".

When the appraisal information database is updated to remove all out-of-county accounts, it will not be possible to search our database for prior year information unless the Account Number is known. Out-of-county property owners seeking prior year information (up to five years prior), and who do not know their DCAD account number, should contact our Customer Services Division for assistance. Their phone number is 214-631-0910. Follow the link below to the Texas Legislature Online website. Enter HB1010 into the Search Legislation box.
